Upon request from industry and government, ASME has beendefining piping safety since 1922.

This Standard covers face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions ofstraightway valves, and center-to-face and center-to-end dimensionsof angle valves. Its purpose is to assure installationinterchangeability for valves of a given material, type, size,rating class, and end connection.

This Standard is to be used in conjunction with equipmentdescribed in other volumes of the ASME B16 series of standards aswell as with other ASME standards, such as the Boiler and PressureVessel Code and the B31 Piping Codes. 

Careful application of these B16 standards will helpusers to comply with applicable regulations within theirjurisdictions, while achieving the operational, cost andsafety benefits to be gained from the many industry best-practicesdetailed within these volumes.

Intended for manufacturers, owners, employers,users and others concerned with the specification, buying,maintenance, training and safe use of valves with pressureequipment, plus all potential governing entities.
