The March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami caused greatloss of life and property in the Nation of Japan, and devastationto the environment. The extraordinary forces and flooding unleashedon the East coastal area also led to severe nuclear plant damageand radiological releases at the Fukushima Dai-ichi station. Theglobal impact of the accident at Fukushima prompted the ASMEPresident, Victoria Rockwell, to commission a Presidential TaskForce to examine those nuclear plant events and their implications.
