This method is primarily for determining total non-aromatichydrocarbons below the one mass-% level in individual or mixedaromatic hydrocarbon samples. For the purpose of this method, totalnon-aromatics is defined as the composite of those componentseluting before benzene. The applicability is limited to samplescontaining compounds having a maximum of 11 carbon atoms. Themethod may also be used to determine mass-ppm concentrations ofbenzene in specific sample types containing predominantlyC₇ and higher boiling aromatics, or benzene and toluenein specific sample types containing predominantly C₈
