Краткое описание

STP 1404 addresses various aspects of bench test selections andlimitations, along with lubrication and wear simulations. Benchtests are commonly used to evaluate the lubrication and wearproperties of industrial fluids when used in various types ofmachinery. They are often used without any validation of thelubrication and wear properties obtained in the machinery beingmodeled -- this has been a long-standing problem in the lubricantsindustry. This book attempts to address this problem.

23 peer-reviewed papers cover:

Problems of Bench Testing--discusses various difficultiesassociated with bench test selection, particularly as the testresults correlate with equipment lubrication. Some suggestions toaddress equipment lubrication correlation problems are: selectionof appropriate test conditions, development of custom-made testequipment, and use of lubrication and wear simulations to identifyappropriate test conditions.

Bench Tests and Test Development--examines proper designconsiderations and model validations to successfully apply benchtests in lubrication and wear analysis.

Analysis--addresses a wide range of methodologies forevaluation of bench test results. These include examination ofexperimental test parameters, detection of boundary and EHDlubrication transitions, wear mode identification by debrisanalysis, and the utility of tribological aspect numbers.

Modeling and Simulation--outlines the value and necessityof experimental simulation of tribological performance to properlyevaluate machinery lubrication and wear problems.
