The papers in this symposium encompass a broad spectrum ofgasket technology. They are indicative of the numerous areas inwhich expertise has developed. Of particular interest are thepresentations dealing with newer types of materials, especially inview of their increasing importance. It is hoped that these paperswill help to advance the knowledge in this field by providinguseful information and by stimulating creative thought as a basisfor future new development.
