Biomedical & Nanomedical Technologies (B&NT): ConciseMonographs Series

This is the 10th volume in the series and completes the first setof monographs that are available for a packagediscount.

Up to 40 volumes are planned for this concise monograph series, which focuses on the implementation of various engineeringprinciples in the conception, design, development, analysis andoperation of biomedical, biotechnological and nanotechnologysystems and applications.

Abstract: In this monograph, an accurate ultrasonic method formeasurement of small motion and deformation of biological tissueare described. In the displacement estimation based on the phasechange of echoes, the displacement estimates are biased when thecenter frequency of the RF echo changes. Such an apparent change inthe center frequency could be caused by the interference of echoesfrom scatterers. To reduce the influence of the center frequencyvariation on the estimation of motion and deformation, an errorcorrecting function, which does not require the assumption that thecenter frequency distributions in 2 different frames are the same, was introduced. As a result, the proposed method provides betterstrain estimates in comparison with conventional phase-sensitivecorrelation methods.
