The purpose of the ASME ASP-2010 Safety Standard for Automotive Service and Maintenance Products is to standardize safety and performance requirements for automotive service and maintenance products. These products include, but are not limited to, shop presses, oil filter crushers, strut spring compressors, oil and antifreeze handlers, and portable hydraulic power kits. Operation and maintenance instructions in this Standard are intended for general application. They are designed to guard against and mitigate injury to workers, and to otherwise provide for the protection of life, limb, and property by prescribing safety requirements. This Standard applies to the design, construction, marking, operation, maintenance, and owner- or operator-inspection of the listed automotive service and maintenance equipment used during automotive service and maintenance of components and vehicles. It does not apply to lifting devices covered under the ASME PALD-2009 Safety Standard for Portable Automotive Lifting Devices.
