This Standard covers the complete general and dimensional datafor nine product types of inch series square and hex bolts andscrews.  Hex flange head and lobed head designs are new inthis revision, as are screw sizes 1 5/8, 1 7/8, and 3 1/8 through 6inches.  Appendices covering gages and gaging information plusformulas on which dimensional data are based are included. Heavy hex structural bolts, formerly covered in ANSI B18.2.1, arenow covered in ASME B18.2.6.

Key changes to this 2010 revisioninclude:

• Additional head types (hex flange andlobed heads) and additional sizes commonly used (1-5/8, 1-7/8, andsizes 3-1/8 through 6 inches) have been added to make the standardmore comprehensive.
  
• The organization of the standard has beenchanged—making finding information easier and faster, andeliminating some redundancy that existed in previousrevisions.

This is the foundationalbolt standard for inch-dimensioned industrial products.  Allcompanies that manufacture, sell, or use inch bolts should havethis revision in their technical library.

Intended for engineeringand quality personnel specifying and/or inspecting inchdimensionally based bolts used in the design and manufacturing ofindustrial products.

ASME B18.2.1 is a backbone document inthe fastener industry.  It defines the requirements for alarge percentage of fasteners used in North America and is referredto in many other documents, including ASTM and SAEpublications.
