This test method covers the determination of the phthalic anhydride content of alkyd resins and resin solutions, including those containing styrene.
Formerly under the jurisdiction of Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials, and Applications, this test method was withdrawn in December 2004 in accordance with section 10.6.3.1 of the Regulations Governing ASTM Technical Committees, which requires that standards shall be updated by the end of the eighth year since the last approval date.

Note 1-This test method is not applicable for the determination of phthalic anhydride in alkyd resins containing other dibasic acids such as maleic or fumaric, or modifying agents such as urea, melamine, and phenolic resins.
