1.1 This standard provides systems for designating wroughtaluminum and wrought aluminum alloys, aluminum and aluminum alloysin the form of castings and foundry ingot, and the tempers in whichaluminum and aluminum alloy wrought products and aluminum alloycastings are produced. Specific limits for chemical compositionsand for mechanical and physical properties to which conformance isrequired are provided by applicable product standards.

Note-A numerical designation assigned in conformance with thisstandard should only be used to indicate an aluminum or an aluminumalloy having chemical composition limits identical to thoseregistered with The Aluminum Association and, for wrought aluminumand wrought aluminum alloys, with the signatories of theDeclaration of Accord on an International Alloy Designation Systemfor Wrought Aluminum and Wrought Aluminum Alloys.
