This International Standard specifies requirements for an environmental management system to enable anorganization to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account legal requirements andother requirements to which the organization subscribes, and information about significant environmentalaspects. It applies to those environmental aspects that the organization identifies as those which it can controland those which it can influence. It does not itself state specific environmental performance criteria.This International Standard is applicable to any organization that wishes to
a)establish, implement, maintain and improve an environmental management system,
b)assure itself of conformity with its stated environmental policy,
c)demonstrate conformity with this International Standard by
1)making a self-determination and self-declaration, or
2)seeking confirmation of its conformance by parties having an interest in the organization, such ascustomers, or
3)seeking confirmation of its self-declaration by a party external to the organization, or
4)seeking certification/registration of its environmental management system by an external organization.
All the requirements in this International Standard are intended to be incorporated into any environmentalmanagement system. The extent of the application depends on factors such as the environmental policy of theorganization, the nature of its activities, products and services and the location where and the conditions inwhich it functions. This International Standard also provides, in AnnexA, informative guidance on its use.
In der ÖNORM werden Anforderungen an ein Umweltmanagementsystem festgelegt, die es einer Organisation ermöglichen, eine Umweltpolitik und entsprechende Zielsetzungen unter Berücksichtigung von rechtlichen Anforderungen und Informationen über bedeutende Umweltauswirkungen zu entwickeln. Sie gilt für jene umweltbezogenen Aspekte, welche die Organisation überwachen kann, und jene, welche sie beeinflussen kann. Sie legt jedoch keine spezifischen Kriterien für umweltorientierte Leistungen fest. Die ÖNORM ist auf jede Organisation anwendbar, die wünscht, ein Umweltmanagementsystem zu verwirklichen, aufrechtzuerhalten und zu verbessern; ihre Konformität mit der selbsterklärten Umweltpolitik sicherzustellen; die Konformität mit dieser Internationalen Norm nachzuweisen durch Selbstermittlung und Selbsterklärung; oder Bestätigung der Selbsterklärung durch eine Partei außerhalb der Organisation; oder Zertifizierung/Registrierung ihres Umweltmanagementsystems durch eine externe Organisation. Alle Anforderungen in dieser Internationalen Norm sollten in jedem Umweltmanagementsystem enthalten sein. Der Umfang ihrer Anwendung wird von Faktoren wie der Umweltpolitik der Organisation, der Art und dem Ort ihrer Tätigkeiten und den jeweiligen Bedingungen abhängen, unter denen sie tätig ist. Anhang A enthält eine informative Anleitung für die Anwendung der ÖNORM.
