ASME Repairing Pipelines with Full Encirclement Welded Split Steel Sleeves

CRTD-Vol. 82

Prepared by the ASME Gas Pipeline Safety Research Committee

Pipelines are one of the primary and safest forms of energy transportation in the U.S., and together with truck and rail, they supply a large portion of our daily energy needs. Although pipelines are of rugged design, they occasionally need repair as a result of gouges or dents from someone working on the right-of-way or from corrosion, either internal or external.

One of the most frequently used repair procedures involves the application of a full encirclement welded split steel sleeve (sleeve) over the damaged area.

Whether you are a welder, a helper or a field supervisor, this video is intended to help you understand some of the important factors -with emphasis on safety-in preparing for a repair, choosing the right type of sleeve, and installing the sleeve on a damaged pipe.

This 18-minute video is available in a convenient DVD format for ready use on-site using a laptop computer.
