Formerly under the jurisdiction of Committee C17 on Fiber-Reinforced Cement Products, this specification was withdrawn in November 2019. This standard is being withdrawn without replacement due to its limited use by industry.
РефератThis specification covers splash bar and corrugated sheet type asbestos-cement products used as cooling tower fill. This specification does not apply to the following: drift eliminators or demisters, louvers, partitioning and casing panels; asbestos-cement pipes; and asbestos-cement flat sheet fill (heat exchange surfaces). Splash bars are classified into the following types: Type I, splash bars consisting of corrugated autoclaved pressed asbestos-cement sheets for the most demanding applications; Type II, splash bars consisting of corrugated pressed asbestos-cement sheets for intermediate service; and Type III, splash bars intended for less demanding service. The corrugated fill used shall be of Type A, which are non-autoclaved, compressed, corrugated sheet with a specified nominal thickness. Materials shall conform to specified manufacturing (autoclave, pressing, and nominal thickness), composition (cement:silica ratio, mineral diluents, cellulose, maximum organic content, and cement type), and performance (apparent density, water absorption, bending moment, freeze-thaw resistance, Harkort test, and free lime) requirements.
Область применения1.1 This specification covers splash bar and corrugated sheet type asbestos-cement products used as cooling tower fill.
1.2 Drift eliminators or demisters, louvers, partitioning and casing panels are covered in Specifications C1080. Asbestos-cement pipes are covered in Specification C296 and Specifications C428. Asbestos-cement flat sheet fill (heat exchange surfaces) are specified in Specification C1082.
1.3 The values stated in the SI system are to be regarded as the standard. The inch-pound units in parentheses are for information only.
1.4 Warning—Breathing of asbestos dust is hazardous. Asbestos and asbestos products present demonstrated health risks for users and for those with whom they come into contact. In addition to other precautions, when working with asbestos-cement products, minimize the dust that results. For information on the safe use of chrysoltile asbestos, refer to “Safe Use of Chrysotile Asbestos: A Manual on Preventive and Control Measures.”2
1.5 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to the Test Method portion, Section 8, of this Specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. See 1.4 for a specific safety hazard.
