Formerly under the jurisdiction of Committee D02 on Petroleum Products, Liquid Fuels, and Lubricants, this test method was withdrawn in December 2022.
To keep the method current, an ILS must be conducted to generate a research report and new precision statement. A communication was sent to the global ASTM community to communicate the plan to allow these methods to eventually be withdrawn. There were no responses to this communication and no volunteers to lead an ILS. Thus, the standard is withdrawn with no replacement.
Значение и использование4.1 This test measures the trace level amount of sediment that is naphtha-insoluble and can be separated by centrifuging. Excessive amounts of sediment in oil could lead to system malfunction in critical applications.
Область применения1.1 This test method covers the determination of trace amounts (less than 0.05 % by volume) of sediment in lubricating oils. Since oil-soluble material precipitated by the specified solvent is not intended as part of the measured sediment, the test method is not applicable in cases where precipitated oil-soluble components will appreciably contribute to the sediment readings.
1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
