Formerly under the jurisdiction of Committee D19 on Water, this test method was withdrawn in February 2010 in accordance with section 10.5.3.1 of the Regulations Governing ASTM Technical Committees, which requires that standards shall be updated by the end of the eighth year since the last approval date.

Results of testing performed in the pulp and paper industry, sewage treatment plants and river water systems are presented in Appendix X1.
This method is not suitable for determining the precise concentration of specific analytes.
This test method may be used to develop trend data, which can be useful in assessing the performance characteristics of treatment process or changes in the raw water.
