1.1 This provisional test method is used to identify textile materials that are ignitable and that can continue to burn when exposed to an electric arc.
1.2 The specimens tested in this provisional test method are textile materials fabricated in the form of shirts.
1.3 This provisional test method is also intended to be used to generate information for the development of smaller scale test methods.
1.4 This provisional test method shall be used to measure and describe the properties of textile materials, products, or assemblies in response to convective and radiant energy generated by an electric arc under controlled laboratory conditions.
1.5 Provisional standards achieve limited consensus through approval of the sponsoring subcommittee.
1.6 This standard shall not be used to describe or appraise the fire hazard or risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of this test may be used as elements of a fire assessment which takes into account all of the factors which are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end use.
1.7 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For specific precautions, see Section 7.
