This European Standard specifies the application dependent, IC card related characteristics for a payphone application. This European Standard does not define the application independent characteristics. They are defined and described in EN 726-3 and EN 726-4. This European Standard defines the operating procedures and the minimal cardphone requirements for the card related part of the payphone application. These will: simplify customer use through a common sequence; ensure the inter-European use of IC cards containing the payphone related applications. For this purpose, this Standard describes: how to ensure, through the payphone application, the entitlement to the invocation of telecommunication features and payment methods; how the payphone application detects which telecommunication features and payment methods are offered by the card; how the payphone application, or the user through the cardphone, can select the different telecommunication features and payment methods offered by the card; the relation to the security module through the payphone; payphone application concepts; the payphone function, only in the sense of voice telephony.
