This European standard specifies a method for determining the comparative bending strength of glass for use in buildings, excluding the effects of the edges.
NOTE: See 5.1.4 in EN 1288-1 for an explanation as to why this test method should only be used for comparing the strength of types of glass, and not for assessing strength for design purposes.

This test is not suitable for patterned glass.
Diese ÖNORM EN beschreibt unter Zugrundelegung der ÖNORM EN 1288-1 ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Biegefestigkeit von Glas im Bauwesen unter Berücksichtigung von Randeinflüssen. Sie gibt Hinweise auf andere Normen, definiert Begriffe, erklärt Formelzeichen und beschreibt die Durchführung und Auswertung der Prüfung sowie die Erstellung des Prüfberichtes. Im informativen Anhang A enthält sie Literaturhinweise. Diese Prüfung ist nicht auf Gußglas (Ornamentglas) anwendbar.
