This International Standard gives guidance on the
keeping of statistics to provide standardized information
on various aspects of the production and
distribution of printed, electronie and micropublications
(essentially books, newspapers and
periodicals).
For the purposes of this International Standard, the
following types of publications are excluded:
a) Publications issued for advertising purposes,
provided that the Iiterary or scientific text is subsidiary
and that the publications are distributed
free of Charge; these include:
- trade catalogues, prospectuses and other
types of commercial, industrial and tourist
advertising;
- publications advertising products or Services
supplied by the publisher, even though they
may describe activities or technical progress
in some branch of industry or commerce.
b) Publications considered to be of a transitory
Character; typical examples are:
- timetables, price-lists, telephone directories;
- Programmes of entertainments, exhibitions,
fairs;
- Company regulations, reports and directives
and circulars;
- calendars:
- electronie texts under development.
Die vorliegende Norm basiert auf den revidierten UNESCO-Empfehlungen zur internationalen Vereinheitlichung der Statistik zu Herstellung und Vertrieb von Büchern, Zeitungen und Zeitschriften, die von der Generalversammlung der UNESCO während ihrer 23. Tagung in Sofia am 1. November 1985 angenommen und in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der UNESCO erstellt wurde. Zweck dieser Norm ist es, dem internationalen Verlagswesen eine Anleitung zur Erstellung von Veröffentlichungsstatistiken in die Hand zu geben. Die enge Zusammenarbeit zwischen der UNESCO und der ISO bei der Formulierung dieser Norm hat die wechselseitige Abstimmung der Norm und der UNESCO-Empfehlung zum Ziel, um jede eventuelle Unklarheit soweit wie möglich auszuschließen. Der Anwendungsbereich dieser Norm wurde um Veröffentlichungen in Mikroform und elektronische Veröffentlichungen erweitert. Der Abschnitt über die Statistik zu elektronischen Veröffentlichungen ist weniger ausführlich als die anderen Abschnitte, da diese sich noch in den Anfängen befindet. Es wird damit gerechnet, daß der Abschnitt über elektronische Veröffentlichungen in Zukunft überarbeitet wird, da eine Gelegenheit zur Überarbeitung alle fünf Jahre besteht. Die Begriffsdefinitionen, die in dieser Norm vorgelegt werden, sind ausschließlich für statistische Zwecke bestimmt.
